Have you ever been afraid? If you have, don’t be embarrassed because it happens to me too. Fear is like walking through a haunted house. You never know what is going to pop out…until it’s too late. This verse tells us that when we are scared, we can pray and look to God.
A time I was really afraid was when I had an encounter with a rattlesnake. I was nine years old and camping with my dad. I ran out the camper door to go play, when suddenly my dad yelled, “Ben! Freeze!” I stood still and did not move. He whispered, “Look down very slowly.” Just a few feet in front of me there was a four foot rattlesnake staring at me. I can’t even begin to describe what I was feeling at that moment. I don’t remember too much past that point, except that I backed away and felt so blessed to be alive.
All my fear is not THAT dramatic. Sometimes it’s just a funny feeling before a big game or my first time in a new place. In the Bible God says to not be afraid because he is with us no matter what. He even prepares us with Ephesians 6:13-17 where he tells us about the cool armor of God. Yes, he has given us real armor and weapons to fight against fear or any other tactic of the devil!
Finally, don’t forget to pray, and pray a lot when you are scared! We can pray to God about anything! Just say the simple words, “Lord, please help me.” By praying and seeking God through His Word we can overcome any fear.
